Story conversations

Commenting and privacy

Comments on the Extras are hosted by The Innocence Protocol using Remark42. They are separate from the novel’s email-verification system and from newsletter signup.

Joining a conversation

Choose a display name, enter your email address and copy the verification code from the email into the sign-in form. You can then comment. Your display name, comment, replies and posting time are visible to other readers. Your email address is not shown publicly. Do not include information you would not want published in your comment or display name.

Email and local storage

The sign-in process uses your email address to send a verification message. Reply notifications are optional and can be unsubscribed from. Transactional messages use the site’s existing email-delivery provider, Resend. Remark42 uses authentication cookies to keep you signed in and browser storage for interface preferences. Comment requests reach this site’s server; IP-derived identifiers may be used to limit abuse. Remark42 may look up a profile image through Gravatar using a hash of your email address and cache it on this server. There are no advertising scripts in the comment component.

Moderation

Discuss the ideas and the story. Disagreement is welcome; harassment, spam, personal attacks and posting someone else’s private information are not. Mark spoilers for other stories. Comments appear publicly when posted and may be removed by the site moderator. Accounts may be blocked for abuse. A comment’s appearance is not an endorsement of its claims.

Editing, deletion and contact

You can edit a comment for 15 minutes after posting. You can find account controls through your commenter profile. Comment data and operational backups are stored on the site’s server. To request help with a comment or your data, email [email protected] and identify the story and display name involved. Do not send passwords or sign-in links.
